Comparing The Runaways to The Donnas

I found this review of The Donnas' latest album Gold Medal with many references to our favorite all-girl band. Something to ponder...

I've seen the same comparison before, but I don't really buy into it. Although the Donnas do have some good tunes, they don't have the individuality or attitude the members of the Runaways do. The Runaways did a lot more experimentation with different styles of rock and roll as well vs the Donnas pretty much staying to their basic pattern. I could be wrong, but I just haven't seen a lot of growth from the Donnas original format to their newest releases. Attitude is all important when ya step up out on the stage. It came natural for the Runaways. The Donnas seem a little too rehearsed.

Honestly, i respect and support all females in rock, but,,,,, comparing The Donnas to The Runaways.. Come on!!!

I agree with the responses, I haven't heard Gold Medal but the first album was very AC/DC and all the songs were very similar with very obvious influences ( perhaps a little too obvious!)
Nevertheless, they are talented musicians.

I think The Runaways can't be compared to any other girl band.
They were the first teenage rock band who toured the world and opened doors for other girl bands.
Before The Runaways nobody believed that girls can rock!
Just think of Cherie wearing her corset on stage ....Madonna did that years and years later and nobody was offended.
I think the Runaways were ahead of their time!
Maybe in the eighties they would have been the big stars!
